The keychain is intended to serve as a tool for superstitious individuals in their daily lives.

However, its primary purpose is to initiate a conversation about obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD),

as I feel a lack of awareness about it in today’s society.

 

OCD is something many people suffer from; the thoughts and rituals can be devastating for the affected individuals. The feeling of being different contributes to the hesitance in seeking help.

Through the folkloric superstition, I aim to shed light on how we all have peculiar thoughts and behaviors. In doing so, I hope to start conversations about anxiety and compulsion to reduce the stigma surrounding the topic.

"If I place the keys on the table, Mom will die" is a thought I strongly believed in during my illness. The phrase, engraved on the telescopic arm, fades the closer you dare to approach the table. A metaphor for how the darkest thoughts can quiet down when you dare to do what feels uncomfortable.

But the engraving is also there to convey a sense of what it's like to constantly carry around these thoughts.

My work was rewarded with the Svenskt Tenn scholarship in 2023, which includes an exhibition in their store.
